Role Detail

Description

St Joseph's Hospice is looking for volunteers to be Compassionate Neighbours. Volunteers spend time each week with a person who is experiencing loneliness and isolation due to old age, frailty, life-limiting condition, or who is at the end of life. Volunteers will be spending time chatting or doing activities that interest both parties. You might visit residents in their own home, have a telephone conversation, or meet with the person in public places and visit places of interest together. You could also choose to help run a social group, where people come together to talk over tea and do activities together to build connections and reduce their isolation. We are looking for people who live in Tower Hamlets, or who are willing to volunteer in Tower Hamlets. We especially welcome interest from people who speak community languages and from men (who are under-represented) but everyone is welcome. This is a project based on reciprocity. It requires the Compassionate Neighbour and the person that they are matched with to have an organic friendship and therefore we do not specify a duration for volunteering.
