Role Detail

Description

Established in 2010, Love to Swim™ is a Swim England registered swim school and affiliated to the Institute of Swimming (IOS), delivering swimming lessons to all ages and abilities in East London. We are currently seeking volunteers to support our swimming teachers in Stepney All Saints Secondary School with group lessons. We have a maximum of 5 pupils per class, 3 in our Autism classes, with the teachers in the water. We are currently looking for 1-2 volunteers to assist our swimming teachers on the poolside. Could one of them be you? Lessons take place during term time only, on Saturdays 9am–12pm and on Mondays 4.30pm–6.30pm. You will be helping set up and tidy up swimming equipment, as well as escorting children to their classes and back to their parents at the end of the lesson.

What skills are required for this role

Why these skills are required

We are looking for people that enjoy working and supporting young children of primary school age and those with Autism. If you have positive energy and can carry out tasks using your initiative to support pupils, parents and teachers (and don’t mind getting splashed on occasion), then this could be the role for you. You do NOT need to know how to swim, as you will be poolside based, but the poolside can be slippery so you will need to be comfortable walking around on wet surfaces.

What is in it for you

Volunteering as an assistant to our swimming teachers can be a rewarding opportunity helping our young pupils to learn a valuable life skill. For the right person, and if you are already a competent swimmer, you may be able to assist from in the water, with the potential to train as a Level 1 Swimming teacher. Travel expenses reimbursed.

Time Commitment

Ideally you will volunteer regularly for one session per week, during term time. The session are on Saturdays 9am–12pm or Mondays 4.30pm–6.30pm. The autumn term dates are Monday 2 Sept to Saturday 19 Oct and Monday 4 Nov to Saturday 14 Dec 2024.
