Description

Food Club is a membership group for families with children who are on a tight budget. It gives members access to buy fresh and tinned food at a big discount whilst also helping tackle food waste by redistribution donated food from suppliers and the public. The Food Club volunteer is there to help with setup and pack down the weekly Food Club shop, welcome members and help them back their choices and help families experience God’s love. Volunteers do not have to be Christians as the role is open to all faiths or none. Responsibilities:  Take fresh food from the fridge to the Food Club before members arrive.  Answer the door and direct members to sign in, sanitise hands and wait their turn if necessary.  Take member’s weekly fee and tick them off the list.  Help new or existing members fill in application or feedback forms.  Give members instructions on how many items they can take.  Give members a friendly welcome and find out how they and the family are doing.  During quiet moments, check expiry dates on food in the stock room and make note of items that need restocking or are running low.  Put together food parcels for people in emergency food need or who cannot attend in person that week.  Pack-up left-over items, sanitise and clear the tables.  Optional- find simple recipes for members to take away using Food Club ingredients. You will be supporting the Food Club leader, Viktoria. Ideally, you will volunteer on a Wednesday, 9am-10.45am, for at least 6 months.

Why these skills are required

 You will need a good level of English, and should be friendly and polite.  Ability to engage with primary aged children in a respectful and encouraging manner, as well as liking children.  Good time keeping skills and a willingness to follow instructions and take on lower level responsibility.  Community languages would be useful but not essential.
