Role Detail

Description

1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem each year. Mental health problems can often lead to isolation and chronic loneliness, which in turn can negatively impact mental health. It's a cycle that we want to break. Volunteers are usually matched to just 1 client who they will support for 1 year. Our volunteers: -Visit once a week for 1-2 hours -Be a friendly, listening ear -Support someone to engage in meaningful activities -Support someone as they regain confidence and start to make new connections

Why these skills are required

There are no real skills needed, as we will provide all the training you need as well as ongoing support. We just need someone who is empathetic, can listen and wants to make a difference.

What is in it for you

-All agreed expenses paid (travel, cost of a soft drink if you meet in a cafe, cost of joining in an activity) -Full training -Group supervision -Reference provided (after 6 months of volunteering) -For some courses, can count towards placement hours -Volunteer social events
