We’re looking for volunteer Mini Bus Drivers to drive our elderly members, some with restricted mobility, to activities and social groups (including supermarket shopping trips). As a Minibus Driver you will work alongside the Minibus Assistant helping welcome people on the minibus and to make them feel comfortable. Being able to get from A to B can be challenging for some of our members who have health conditions or restricted mobility. As a Minibus Driver, you will play an integral role in supporting our mission to help members be active, engaged and independent. Factors supporting an individual's health and wellbeing. This is a flexible role and ideal for someone who enjoys driving and meeting new people. You are invited to join in on the activities you take our member to, however, this is optional.
We are looking for people of all ages with a heart for older and or disabled people. You will need to be reliable, friendly and approachable and have empathy, compassion and patience. You will need a full, clean driving license and be prepared to undergo specific training to drive the SOS minibus (there is no cost implications to the volunteer for this.) Someone who is willing to help people to stay independent.
So many people don't have family who live close to them. We connect people who want to help, with people who need help. It's a win, win. Those who volunteer feel more engaged with the people within their own local communities. And those people who ask us for help are able to get to appointments, see their friends and get out and about.
This is flexible and could be as little as volunteering once a month
