Multicultural Richmond Volunteer Role Description Multicultural Richmond (MCR) is an independent, local charity that has worked to support people from minority communities for thirty years in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames (LBRuT) Volunteer role: Day Volunteer Service: Multicultural Social Club (MCSC) MCR run a number support groups and activities across LBRuT. The MCSC is run twice a week on a Monday and Thursday from 10.00 am-1.30pm at Whitton Social Centre 111a Kneller Road Whitton Twickenham TW2 7DT Supported by: MCSC Projects Officer Commitment: Two days a week, a minimum of 4 hours per session, up to 8 hours per week. Training: Induction training will be offered as appropriate. DBS: DBS will be undertaken by MCR Role purpose: To support MCR staff in the running of MCSC, with a focus on supporting the Projects Officer run the kitchen and food service and help with activities and socialising with the clients. Personal qualities and experience Day volunteers are friendly and patient. They understand the needs of older people and empathise with them. They demonstrate strong listening and communication skills. Some experience of working with older people is desirable but not essential. Reliability is key. Volunteers must be willing to work within guidelines and always follow confidentiality policies. Tasks and activities • Help the clients to engage in activities. • Socialise with clients. • Play games and get involved in activities, as required. • Organise activities if you have a particular skill you would like to share. • Serve drinks and food • Tidy up after food and activities. • Other tasks as asked for by the club organiser or manager. What will we expect from you? Commit to volunteering with us for at least 6 months Perform your volunteering role to the best of your ability. Maintain the confidential information of the organisation and of its users. Read and comply with MCR’s policies, procedures and guidelines. Attend any training relevant to your duties. Act in a professional way whenever you represent MCR. Raise any concerns at the earliest opportunity. Give us as much notice as possible should you be unable to attend or carry out your volunteer role with us anymore. What will you get in return?
