Description

What You'll Do? Mentors for refugee women will empower women with children aged 5+ to overcome challenging circumstances and help them find ways to make social connections and integrate with their local community and groups, referring and signposting them to other organisations providing more specialist support if needed. Through encouragement and active listening, you will support your mentees’ mental wellbeing, by providing a safe space to discuss the challenges faced as woman and the increased challenges and barriers your mentee will face being a mother and a refugee. Being trained in positive psychology and coaching style techniques, you will support your mentee to help them achieve their goals and get them where they want to be. What You'll Learn? Through our comprehensive training and ongoing support, you will develop skills in positive psychology and coaching style techniques to effectively support a refugee woman to making steps towards positive change, gaining transferable skills relevant for personal and professional development, this includes but is not limited to team working, empathetic leadership, organisation, growth mindset and adaptive communication styles and approaches. What We're Looking For? We welcome volunteers age 21+ from all backgrounds, with life experience, who are non-judgemental and will be committed to support other women over a period of up to 24 weekly sessions. We welcome mentors over the age of 50, for our Women2Women: Sharing Wisdom, Sharing Lives sub programme. This is a great opportunity if you are looking to bridge a gap in your CV and get back into work. We provide references and development opportunities through training. About Unfold Main business: : Charities, NGOs and international development Who are Unfold? Delivered by amazing volunteers of all ages, backgrounds and a range of life experiences, Unfold offer mentoring programmes for lasting change, to empower communities in Westminster and the surrounding boroughs to get them to where they want to be. Our Womens Support Groups add to this, providing a stimulating, safe, fun and informal space. Unfold Aims In order to support in getting people to where they want to be, Unfold delivery is based on 3 clear aims: Confidence: Based in positive psychology, our mentoring supports the development of a growth mindset to boost confidence and well-being. Independence: Our mentees develop skills in setting goals, building lasting independence. Connectedness: We aim to connect people to one more group, service or activity which meets their needs, to build lasting connections. Your Impact By becoming a mentor with Unfold, you will be contributing to supporting those who often face exclusion, this is because, although we are open to everyone, 85% of the families we support are single headed households led by a woman, 93% of our service users are from racialised groups, 60% of our referrals come from other supporting services and in the last 18 months, we expanded and adapted our services to support Afghan evacuees and asylum seekers.
