;
You will be meeting someone who is at risk of homelessness or offending about once a week for 16 weeks. You will meet in any convenient public venue or meeting online through Zoom at times that suit you. You do not need specific skills. Your role will be to help them with focus, encouragement and support to achieve agreed goals. You may be helping them to fill in forms, to apply for benefits, possibly accompanying them to office appointments. We offer initial training and we provide regular support from an experienced professional who will phone you once a week and meet you regularly. You will only be matched with someone you are happy to help. You will need to have a criminal records (DBS) check ( though a criminal record would not necessarily mean you could not mentor). We will provide you with a mobile phone so that you do not need to use your own phone to contact the person you are mentoring. The initial training is at fixed times -usually early evening. But the mentoring can be at any time that suits you, including evenings and weekends.
No specific skills are required. Though an ability to use the internet and fill in forms would be helpful. You do need to be reliable and consistent and keep in touch with people.
You will gain a better understanding of the problems that homeless and excluded people face. We hope you will gain from a worthwhile and rewarding relationship. if you are considering working in any caring profession, you will gain valuable experience.
5 hours induction training then 1 hour a week at a time and place that suits you
