We are looking to train Volunteer Reading Coaches to work with adult learners on a one-to-one basis. What it looks like in practice: • Meeting a learner weekly, on-site at their college campus, for about an hour a week • Helping the learner practice skills they’re learning in the classroom • Provide encouragement and build confidence
ALT are looking for volunteers who are: • Good communicators, with strong reading and listening skills • Friendly, warm, and approachable • Reliable and punctual • Empathetic, patient, and non-judgemental • Have an ability to explain things in a simple manner • Passionate about literacy and its importance
• Satisfaction in helping learners make progress • New knowledge and skills from participating in ALT’s in-depth volunteer training • Making new connections • Experience in coaching and mentoring • Experience of supporting learners to overcome barriers
1 hour per week minimum for ideally at least 1 academic term. ALT sessions take place during term-time only.
