To go swimming with a young man that has mobility problems and autism, with limited verbal communication. You do not need to be a good swimmer because the person tends to stay in the shallow end of the pool. The activity should be fun and doing some exercise. There will be a member of staff in attendance.
Swimmer Good communication skills Experience with with people who are non-verbal or have speech impairment and Autism would be useful but not essential as training is provided Patience Sense of humour Reliable
Enjoy some exercise in the pool Have fun See physical benefits to the person supported Reduce isolation and depression Get a refernce after 6 months of active volunteering
2 - 3 hours, any week day, 4-6pm ish
