Role Detail

Description

We're looking for people based in the Hackney area to help with local outreach and community engagement. Working with the engagement team, you'd be helping to reach out to people in the local area to talk about alcohol - not in a preachy or judgemental way! - just to encourage healthier drinking and lifestyles. You might have an interest in public health, community wellbeing, addiction or just like talking to people or would like to help improve society! Activities include visiting community centres, religious venues, health and wellbeing centres, colleges and universities, and interest groups, among many more. The aims of the role would be to get people talking about alcohol, to hear their thoughts and experiences - especially in underrepresented groups where we know alcohol harms exist but may be higher or more hidden. We are also hoping to recruit further volunteers to broaden the conversation in the community. 🤝Why volunteer with us? By joining our volunteer programme, you'll gain valuable experience, develop leadership skills, and become an advocate for healthier communities. Here's what you can expect; ✨ Training and support: Receive comprehensive training and ongoing support from our experienced team to enhance your knowledge and skills in alcohol harm reduction. 💪 Personal growth: As a volunteer, you'll have opportunities to expand your horizons, build confidence, and make a lasting impact on the lives of those in your community. 🌈 Inclusivity and diversity: We embrace diversity and value the unique perspectives and experiences of every volunteer. Together, we'll create an inclusive environment that celebrates our differences. Alcohol Change UK is a national charity with its head office based on Swinton Street, WC1X

What skills are required for this role

Why these skills are required

Being friendly, outgoing and able to talk to people are the only required skills - so English language proficiency is required. Otherwise being proactive, having an ability to take make outreach visits independently, and being able to make contacts with local people and organisations are useful skills to have. You will be fully supported at all times.

What is in it for you

Great experience of health and social activities, the opportunity to help reduce the harms in a complicated issue and make a real difference to local people. It's a ideal way to get experience for people interested in community work, wellbeing, activism or campaigning, or who just enjoys talking to new people and improving health.

Time Commitment

Flexible, when you can - could be as little as 1 hour a week or less
