Role Detail

Description

Volunteers are vital to the work we do supporting people experiencing homelessness in Hackney. We have a great need for volunteers to help run the shelters over the weekends and would love for you to be part of our brilliant volunteering community. We are a night shelter that runs all year round and is open all day on the weekends, both of which is unusual, as a lot of night shelters only operate in the winter and when they do it is only at night. Our greatest need is for people who can give an evening on Friday or a period of time over Saturday or Sunday, serving food and drinks, chatting with guests and helping to keep the shelter a safe and friendly place to be. Shifts vary in length from 3-4 hours. We have a roster of wonderful volunteers who usually commit to a regular weekly shift. We were actually started by volunteers 25 years ago when we were a roving shelter, but we now have a location. Our main shelter has 20 beds and we give our guests 28 day stays whilst supporting them holistically back into work, help with their visa applications and to find longer term accommodation. This is a fantastic role for someone who wants to make a real difference in their local community helping those in need. You can volunteer for as little as 3 hours. We are happy to discuss timings as we are flexible.
