Volunteer Profile Basic Tasks for Volunteers • Help set up the Contact Centre in advance of people arriving • Prepare and serve refreshments • Welcoming the Centre’s users and visitors • Registering everyone on the premises • Helping parents to interact with their children • Reassure children who may be feeling nervous of contact • Keeping a watchful eye throughout the contact rooms and garden • Clean and check toys if necessary • Keep toy cupboards tidy • Tidy up once the Contact Centre has closed Child Contact Centre Volunteers should be: • Cheerful • Assertive but not dominant • Re-assuring • Able to understand the issues that affect separated families • Able to build relationships while remaining impartial • Able to deal with difficult situations • Prepared to work as part of a team exchanging information and supporting each other • Aware of and prepared to follow and policies and procedures of Neutral Ground • Prepared to attend and participate in any relevant training events either at the centre or elsewhere
No formal skills required, but you must be able to relate to people, be non judgmental and empathetic. You must enjoy spending time with children and be prepared to get your hands dirty
