Each FoodCycle Project is run on the ground by a team of lead volunteers called Project Leaders, who take ownership and make decisions about its day-to-day running. Each leader takes on a specific role to ensure the smooth running of their FoodCycle Project. As a volunteer Hosting Project Leader, you’ll act as the maître’ d of the team, running your Project’s front-of-house and helping to create the warm, friendly atmosphere that will make both volunteers and guests want to return each week. Your team of volunteers will lay the tables, greet the guests, and serve the food– all under your guidance! As a volunteer Hosting Project Leader, you’ll be responsible for: -Running hosting sessions, leading a team of other volunteers to serve a three-course meal in a limited timeframe. -Ensuring your team are following the food safety procedures set out in our kitchen handbook. -Inducting new volunteers. -Encouraging the whole team to have input into creating a warm, friendly atmosphere for guests. -Completing the weekly session report via the Project Leader portal.
You'll learn a whole host of skills, including: -Teamwork: you'll work as part of a team to prepare delicious meal and serve to our guests. -Leadership and delegation: we'll train you up to lead hosting sessions and induct new volunteers -Hosting: you'll lead on 'front of house' duties, coordinating a team of volunteers -Safeguarding: you'll learn how to ensure the safety of our guests and volunteers -Relationship building: you'll be building lasting relationships with your guests and volunteers so that they come back each week.
You can expect: -Regular visits from your local FoodCycle staff team -Expenses covered in line with our volunteer policy -Accredited Level 2 Food Safety and Food Allergens qualification, provided by FoodCycle -A variety of other training opportunities, including first aid training -An annual conference to help share knowledge and experience with other volunteers -The opportunity to take on additional tasks/responsibilities within your Project Leader role -Impressive skills to add to your CV and a reference from us if you need it -The opportunity to meet a large network of like-minded people -A fun, creative volunteer experience with ownership over a community-led project
A project leader is expected to stay in their role for a minimum of 6 months, leading a project at least once a month.
