Description

A Mental Health Champion is someone with lived experience of mental health who wants to join us in challenging mental health stigma and representing the diversity of experiences of Greenwich residents. As a Mental Health Champion, you will help us to connect with your peers and grow our understanding of mental health in Greenwich by undertaking research within your community, for which you will receive training from our Engagement Officer. You will find out how their mental health has effected them, how they manage it, and whether they have accessed any services to help them through. It's a sensitive but important role that will help us make great changes to local mental health support through independent research, with the communities it represents at the core of our research. Volunteers must be willing to spend a couple of hours per week connecting with their peers to carry out semi-structured interviews (either one-on-one or group), whether that's in their church group, community centre, or a social club. You will write brief notes on your research and meet with the volunteer manager to discuss what you've learnt and look for ways to make new connections. You can also talk to us confidentially about your own lived experiences of mental health to us. There will be opportunities to talk with decision makers to make sure your voice is heard and change is delivered, and participate in paid focus groups (vouchers).
