Call companions make regular telephone calls to lonely and isolated older people providing a lifeline of friendship. The regular chat and companionship offer a vital link with the outside world. Our Call Companion Coordinators are volunteers, over the age of 18, who oversees a small group of our call companions and the older people they speak to on a regular basis. As a call companion coordinator, you will be the main point of contact for all of the call companions and older people in your group. Our call companion coordinators are a vital part of the Re-engage team, ensuring that their group of call companions have all the support and information they need to make regular friendship calls to older people.
This is a challenging and rewarding role which might be a bit busy, to begin with, but will take up less of your time once your group is fully up and running. You will need to be a good organiser, have a friendly outgoing manner and able to and able to motivate and manage a small team of people. The role holder will require some basic IT skills in order to report back on the group to the charity.
The role holder will be able to hone their team management skills and will have the opportunity to become one of Re-engage’s senior volunteer members. The role holder will complete a training programme prior to taking on the role which includes modules on “managing difficult conversations” “listening skills” and safeguarding procedures.
