Description

Re-engage helps to reduce loneliness by supporting volunteers to organise tea parties for older people. We are looking for volunteers to coordinate the smooth running of local tea party groups across Croydon. You'll need to be friendly, approachable, well organised and able to commit at least a couple of hours a week supporting your group as well as attending one-afternoon tea party a month. The group Coordinator is the vital link between the group and the elderly, responsible for managing the monthly outings and making sure that they go ahead without a hitch

Why these skills are required

The main responsibilities are: To be the point of contact for the groups' older guests and volunteers maintaining good communications within all members of the group Maintain, hold and store safely the specified Contact the Elderly's group's contact details for the volunteers and older guests Arrange all aspects of the monthly outing; re-booking the annual hosting schedule from the previous year and working with a Contact the Elderly development officer/support officer to find new volunteer hosts to complete the schedule where needed - In the case of a new group, the Group Coordinator will work with the Development officer/support officer to find volunteers hosts to complete the schedule where needed In the case of a new group, the Group Coordinator will work with the Development Officer/Support Officer to compile a new hosting schedule from a list of confirmed volunteer hosts to and put together a driving rota with the volunteer drivers allocated to support the group Liaise with our volunteer drivers to ensure that they are allocated an older guest(s) to collect and take to the tea party outings Contacting new older guests that have been allocated to the group to reassure them about the format of the tea parties, and letting them know which volunteer driver will be collecting them Work closely with their allocated support/development officer at Contact the Elderly to plan the group's needs for older guests and volunteers and let them know of any issues with the group Attend the majority of the group's tea parties (one Sunday afternoon a month) Skills Description: - Good interpersonal and communication skills - Good organisational skills - Patience and diplomacy - A desire to work with older people and volunteers Time expectation: If coordinating a new group we would expect around 3 hours a week, but once the group is set up and running smoothly we would expect that the role would involve around 3-4 hours a month (excluding the Sunday afternoon tea party) Commitment: For existing group's we would like a minimum of six months and a review will be set up after this time. Many of our volunteer GC's have been volunteering for their group over five years. For a new group's we would like a minimum of a year.
