Role Detail

Description

We at EcoCounts have a full-scale but straight-forward approach to tackling the climate and ecological crisis. It starts with a group of up to 50 volunteers taking action to reduce their impact on the climate and the environment, and recording their actions as evidence of their progress. We are creating a small team of computer-literate people in this group to help get the required data together and make sure people can record their impact effectively. This is the first phase and everything must be small, manageable and achievable for everyone. We're aiming to cover energy bills, transport like flights, cars and public transport, supermarket shopping and so on using a mixture of real numbers and averages. Somebody helping with the data and the spreadsheets would be collaborating on the research into CO2 emissions, compiling the data and helping the other volunteers to access it and record their own carbon account. EcoCounts is a new charity focused on North London with the aim of combating climate change and the ecological crisis even during the cost of living crisis. We are bringing together a group of participants, local people from all age groups, walks of life and backgrounds who want to take action in their daily lives to be more climate-friendly, more eco-friendly and possibly even lower their cost of living. The idea of a group is that we all bring our own passions, and feed the rest of the group with the easiest, most impactful activities they can do, while learning from everyone else what we can do simply and effectively in all sorts of other areas of our life, meanwhile recording it all to prove that it works. EcoCounts will back up this collective of eco-warriors and eco-worriers with resources and structure to make it all work. Do you want to join in? Please get in touch so you can help get the ball rolling. Read more about how we are planning our approach: https://ecocounts.community/our-theory-of-change/

Why these skills are required

The main skill required is communication. With others in the group, with EcoCounts, with other interested people outside the group. About what you can do, and how you can do it, and what the benefits are - it's easy if it's something you already do.

What is in it for you

This is really easy after the awful heatwave with the fires all around London, the fire brigade stretched to the limit like in the 2nd World War. The penny has dropped for many people recently. But unfortunately, humans have a knack of undropping pennies like this, especially if the effort they have to make sounds too much. Which is where EcoCounts comes in. We want to make it easy - different, of course, but easier. You would be helping a small charity create a community group blueprint that we hope to be able to replicate across the country.
