Horse Rangers - Riding for the Disabled (RDA) Weekday Volunteer Role

We are looking for horse-experienced volunteers and/or volunteers with experience working with people with disabilities to help support children, young people and adults with disabilities during their weekday riding as therapy sessions.
Horse Rangers is a youth organisation based in Hampton court which uses horses to help children and young people develop and build essential life skills. We also have an active Riding for the Disabled (RDA) programme which supports children, young people and adults with disabilities. We are looking for horse-experienced volunteers and/or volunteers with experience working with people with disabilities to help support our RDA participants during their weekday riding as therapy sessions. Horse-based roles would include: 1) Support catching and bringing horses in from field or stable. 2)Helping groom and tack up 3)Leading horses (if experienced with horses or have completed internal training) 4)Side-helping - Walking alongside the participant on the ride to support them emotionally and help pass on instructions given by the Coach Other roles would include: 1)Meets and greets with participants and parents and/or carers as they arrive for activities 2)Setting up the school before sessions and helping break down the school after sessions 3)Completing registers and helping with rotas There are also opportunities for volunteers to undertake further training towards becoming a registered RDA Instructor. Our sessions are run entirely by volunteers. We are looking for positive, friendly and forward thinking individuals to join us!

All volunteers will be put through an Enhanced DBS check and reference process prior to volunteering. Roles are focused on supporting our participants with disabilities. Previous experience is not necessarily needed but a friendliness and good people skills are essential. As you will be working in close vicinity to horses, it is important that you are confident to learn more about working around horses and not fearful. Volunteers wanting to get involved with horses need to be confident around horses and have a basic knowledge of needs and be happy to follow instructions.
All volunteers will get the opportunity to work outdoors around horses and help support people with disabilities in a private, beautiful location connect to Bushy Park. All volunteers will have the opportunity to interact with the horses and learn more about working around them. Managing and working with our participants is not only extremely rewarding, but will also be brilliant volunteering to build skills in the charity, SEND and child-caring sectors.
Volunteers usually volunteer on the same day each week so that they can get to know the participants, volunteers and horses on that day. Our RDA sessions take place on the following days/times: Wednesday Evenings 4:30pm-7:30pm Thursday Mornings 9:30am-1:00pm Friday Daytimes 11:00am-3:00pm
