Family Support Volunteer
Home-Start Southwark
Home-Start are looking for volunteers to offer peer support to local families within Lewisham and Southwark by offering regular visits to families with children under the age of 5. We ask for a commitment of 2 hours per week for around 6 months. We reimburse all travel expenses.
To offer peer support to local families within Lewisham and Southwark. This role is suitable for those who are parents or have experience of working with young children and would like to give back to their community. Tasks could include helping the family to access local activities, encouraging play activities within the home, offering a listening ear and signposting to other services. Visits must take place between 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. All volunteers are required to attend our 6 session volunteer preparation course and have an enhanced DBS check and can provide 2 references. We reimburse all travel expenses and can provide references once a volunteer has supported a family for 6 months. Many of our volunteers have used this role as a way of gaining confidence to get back into the workplace or to gain experience for a role within family support or social care.

Volunteers need to be parents or have experience of working with children. They need to have good listening and empathy skills so they can offer non-judgmental support to families who need a helping hand.
All volunteers will join our volunteer preparation course, covering topics such as child development and safeguarding to help them feel prepared for visits. We also provide ongoing training opportunities and social events throughout the year. We reimburse all travel expenses and can provide references once a volunteer has supported a family for 6 months. Many of our volunteers have used this role as a way of gaining confidence to get back into the workplace or to gain experience for a role within family support or social care.
Visits are usually every week for around 2 hours and we ask for a commitment of 6 months
