34th Camberwell Scouts

Join our dynamic Scout team! Volunteer with 10.5-14 year olds on Thursday evenings.

Detailed Description

The 34th Camberwell Scouts, one of the oldest Scout troops in London, is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join our Troop. Full training is provided. Volunteers will work with Scouts aged 10.5-14 years on Thursdays (6.30-8.30pm) at the Peckham Rye Activity Centre during school term times. This role involves organising games, badge work and general organizing. Volunteers can also participate in our wider program, including hikes, activity centres, and camps on weekends. No prior experience is required, and attendance is flexible to accommodate commitments which arise.

What skills are required for this role

Managing People

Why these skills are required

Volunteers can undertake a range of duties which can include organising the games for the evening, organising and/or supporting the weekly badge work - see the Scout website for badges we can cover: https://www.scouts.org.uk/scouts/activity-badges/ and helping with refreshments and general organising. Full training, coaching and support is provided for new volunteers and no prior experience is required. You would also be invited to attend our wider programme, which includes hikes (usually half-day), activity centres and camps (usually one to two days/nights). These events take place at weekends and are not compulsory. Volunteers will be provided with opportunities to receive training e.g. First Aid. Volunteers may be asked to assist with general administration within the Troop, e.g. helping send emails, ordering badges etc., but this is not onerous and is shared out. If you are interested in becoming an volunteer but would like to try out a few evenings first, that is of course, totally fine. Drop us a line and we can arrange for you to come along to some of our Troop evenings. We'd also be happy to chat to potential volunteers on the phone to discuss the role.

What is in it for you

We are a thriving and over-subscribed group and we need adult leaders to help us to continue to develop our programme. Without volunteers, we simply could not deliver the important service that we offer. You would be vital to the efficient and effective operation of our Troop and will allow us to keep offering Scouting to the next generation of young people in our local area. We are an open and welcoming troop and we will be able to benefit from the experiences and skills that our new volunteers bring to the group.
