To support and engage older adults with mental health diagnoses, which in some cases may be in the context of dementia, who are under the Lewisham Older Adult Community Mental Health Team.
To support and engage older adults with mental health diagnoses, which in some cases may be in the context of dementia, who are under the Lewisham Older Adult Community Mental Health Team. The Youth Volunteer and Recovery Enabler will always work in pairs either with another volunteer or a member of the Lewisham CMHT. The Youth Volunteer and Recovery Enabler will work alongside other volunteers and professionals to offer support to allocated service users. Examples of input may include: - Co-facilitating social inclusion/lifestyle groups running at the CMHT team base or other locations alongside other professionals (e.g. occupational therapist, support worker or adult 18+ volunteers. - Visiting 24 hour supported accommodation to befriend service users, providing much needed face-to-face social contact. Pairs of youth volunteers could meet service users in communal areas of supported accommodation where care-staff are always on-site.

Skills and Qualifications Good Communication/ Listening Skills Understanding of older adults, mental health and dementia (but we can provide support and training around this too) Local knowledge of Lewisham or a drive to develop this! Empathy Patience To be committed and reliable Team working
An awareness and understanding of volunteering in a Community Mental Health Service. Supporting older adults with mental health issues. Volunteering in a team. Meeting other volunteers and volunteering with peers. Community engagement and participation.
