Enablement Support Volunteer

The Enablement Service supports adults struggling to manage at home and at risk of hospital visits.

Detailed Description

The Enablement Service supports people (18+ years) struggling to manage at home, who are at risk of being admitted to hospital or who are just being discharged from hospital. The Enablement Service works together with clients to identify what support needs to be put in place, so that they are better able to cope with the situation they are in. The service provides practical support and assistance to older people and aims to boost confidence, resilience and physical and mental wellbeing. It helps people maintain their independence.

Why these skills are required

Person Specification No formal experience needed, as all necessary training will be given, but you will need to have: • Empathy and an understanding of issues facing vulnerable people • Must have great communication and listening skills • Ability to support vulnerable adults in a person-centred way • Ability to maintain boundaries when supporting clients on a one-to-one basis • Key qualities include reliability, punctuality, trustworthiness, patience and sensitivity • Ability to understand and follow an action plan • Must be organised and able to work independently • Good interpersonal skills and be able to talk to a wide variety of people • Ability to speak with those hard of hearing

Time Commitment

Commitment to the role: Due to the extensive training involved we require a minimum commitment of at least 2 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months.
