Female Mentor

Laamiga: Women's Mentoring and Training

We are looking for women who have experience of paid /unpaid work, self-employment or run their own business to share their own experience and provide support and guidance to another woman.

Detailed Description

We provide support to migrant and refugee women who want to learn how to start up their own businesses or to find employment; with the aim of starting them on their road to achieve financial independence. We are looking for women who have run their own business or who have experience of paid/unpaid work, to share their own experience and provide support and guidance to another woman. You will be helping women to develop their self confidence and resilience, and help them learn to help themselves when they are undergoing changes in their lives, making decisions and choosing their pathways. You will have online regular meetings, one hour every two weeks, for 6 - 12 months. In between the meetings, you could provide support to mentee by phone calls, texts and emails. A full training programme in mentoring will be provided. There is a modular distance learning training course for mentoring provided where you can have small group online sessions with the trainer and other volunteers. Also one-to-one telephone supervision is provided initially once a month or when it is needed. This is a very rewarding role and also a great opportunity to improve your skills in communication, coaching, goal setting and problem solving.

Why these skills are required

We are looking for women who are friendly, open minded and value diversity. Experience of paid/unpaid work, self-employment or running a business is desirable, but not essential. Experience of working with Black Minority Ethnic refugee and migrant women is beneficial, but not essential.
