Volunteers to help set up and run Scouts at legacy Youth Zone in Croydon.
Scouts are 10-14 yrs and Explorers are 14-18 yrs. We're recruiting 2 teams of volunteers to support the young people with a fantastic active programme. We want to offer the outdoors to the young people at the centre, many of whom have never even left Croydon let alone gone camping! We're keen to offer DofE to the 14-18 yr olds and give both sets of young people the chance to try different things, grow in confidence and thrive in new surroundings. Young people can be so exciting and challenging to work with, they need someone who can listen as well as talk, they need to know boundaries but not be dictated too. We need team members who love the outdoors, skills such as canoeing, climbing, hiking, camping would be really helpful, but also the basic skills such as knots, first aid, design, playing games and coking
Volunteering here will be so rewarding. You'll become a role model to our young people. Make friends with like minded people and gain more life skills. You'll have so much to add to your CV or impress those at work too. We offer free training and membership, uniform and chances to go on residential experiences. Out of pocket expenses are paid, but this is a volunteer role so we don't pay wages.
Currently we are trying Scouts (9-12 yrs) weekly on Thursday eves between 18:30 - 19:45 as the centre closes at 20:00 on Thursdays. We are looking at Monday or Wednesday for the 14-18yr olds) time would be slightly later 19:00 or 19:30 - 20:30 depending on the team and would probably be bi-weekly or monthly. Plus the occasional night away for expeditions, hikes or camps - these would probably be at the weekend
