Blether Buddy Befrienders Needed
ScotsCare
If you enjoy meeting new people, socialising and helping others, read on!
Blether Buddies connect with an older ScotsCare client for one or two hours a week or fortnight, to help reduce loneliness and social isolation. Meetings are normally 1 - 2 hours in our client's home or their community, going for coffee, a walk or even visiting places of interest together, simple activities that many of us take for granted. We provide training before you start and ongoing support once you are matched. Expenses for travel and refreshments are also reimbursed. Your gift of time and your companionship would make a world of difference to their emotional wellbeing.

Language Skills
No experience is necessary, more importantly you will need: - to be reliable and committed, honest and trustworthy - a warm and friendly nature - to converse clearly in English and have good listening skills - the ability to commit to regular weekly or fortnightly meetings for a minimum period of at least 6 months, longer if possible.
We provide training to help you feel confident in the role, and ongoing support once you are matched. Two references are required, and an enhanced DBS check will be processed. You'll get to meet new people and potentially gain new skills. Befriending is a simple activity yet very rewarding. ScotsCare befrienders tend to stay involved for the longer term, but only because they enjoy what they do. In fact, your meetings will be something that you and our client can look forward to. In return for your commitment, we can provide references if you need them, give you additional training that relates to your voluntary role, plus we run social events throughout the year for volunteers and produce newsletters to keep you informed. You will receive a very warm welcome here at ScotsCare, please come and join our community!
Meetings are normally one or two 2 hours per week or fortnight at times to suit you and our clients, plus time to travel. Phone calls are usually 15 minutes up to one hour.
