Blether Buddy Befrienders Needed
ScotsCare
Make a positive difference to an older person who feels alone and is socially isolated.
Can you connect with an older ScotsCare client for one or two hours a week or fortnight? Meetings are 1 - 2 hours in our client's home or in their community, going for coffee, a walk or visiting places of interest together, simple activities that many of us take for granted. We provide training before you start and ongoing support once you are matched. Expenses for travel and refreshments are also reimbursed. Your gift of time and your companionship would make a world of difference to their emotional wellbeing.
Befriending, Buddying & Mentoring
Language Skills
No experience is necessary, more importantly you will need: - to be reliable and committed, honest and trustworthy - a warm and friendly nature - to speak fluent English for friendly conversation - good listening skills - the ability to commit to regular weekly or fortnightly meetings for a minimum period of at least 6 months, longer if possible.
We provide training to help you feel confident in the role, and ongoing support once you are matched. Two references are required, and an enhanced DBS check will be processed. You'll get to meet new people and potentially gain new skills. Befriending is a simple activity yet very rewarding. ScotsCare befrienders tend to stay involved for the longer term, but only because they enjoy what they do. In fact, your meetings will be something that you and our client can look forward to. In return for your commitment, we can provide references if you need them, give you additional training that relates to your voluntary role, plus we run social events throughout the year for volunteers and produce newsletters to keep you informed. You will receive a very warm welcome here at ScotsCare, please come and join our community!
Meetings are normally one or two hours per week or fortnight at times to suit you and our clients, plus time needed to travel to the meetings. Phone calls are usually 15 minutes to one hour.
