Green Gym in Camden Volunteer Officer

The Conservation Volunteers - TCV (Former - BTCV)

The TCV Green Gym is a unique and exciting initiative to help people become mentally and physically healthier by taking part in outdoor nature conservation activities. As a Volunteer Officer you will be helping volunteers to engage with and improve their environment, learn about nature conservation and enjoy healthier lifestyles. You will play an integral part in the smooth running of the Green Gym in Camden, helping us to develop and manage over 25 green spaces in Camden every year.

Detailed Description

The TCV Green Gym® Project inspires volunteers to improve both their health and the environment at the same time. The twice-weekly programme runs practical volunteer sessions every Tuesday and Thursday, from 10.45am to 2pm and is open and free to all volunteers. There are also opportunities to be involved at the weekend with community-led Green Gyms. The programme of practical activity is be delivered across Camden's parks and Local Nature Reserves, including projects to develop community wildlife gardens, orchards and establish food growing and composting initiatives. The sessions offer volunteers a range of new and interesting practical conservation experiences, to improve strength and stamina, boost practical skills and confidence, and to meet volunteers with similar interests. Each three-hour session is tailored to include all abilities, ensuring a safe and memorable experience for all. As well as the health and social benefits of volunteering, we also offer a practical conservation skills training, Volunteer leadership experience and training in health and safety assessment to individuals who wish to join our volunteer leadership programme. Some of the additional benefits are: - Opportunity to develop an understanding of conservation techniques and the practical management of green spaces for nature and people. - PPE and travel expenses - Free training and supervision - This opportunity is open to anyone aged 16+

What is in it for you

Our leadership program is a fantastic opportunity for anyone wishing to gain the experience vital to land a paid position working in the environmental or community sector. A full training package is provided including First Aid, Project Leadership, Nature Conservation, Risk Assessment and Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups. Reasonable local travel expenses are covered, and full support and mentoring is provided by the Project Officer. Within each project there is scope for you to tailor the role to your requirements; you can have a positive influence on the project's development.
