Grandmentors Merton - Volunteering Matters
Arabic speaking mentors required to support young refugees, aged 16-24.
- Meet with a young person (16-24) a few times a month (usually weekly/fortnightly). - Builds up a relationship based on trust and mutual respect. - Acts as a positive role model, helping boost confidence and self-esteem to encourage ambition and aspiration. - It is an intergeneration mentoring programme, so volunteers must be older than 50.

Basic IT skills - internet & email
No specific experience is required. Most important is to be passionate about helping young people reach their full potential. Attributes that will help a volunteer succeed in this role include: empathy, listening, non-judgemental, encouraging, patient.
- Gain purpose by supporting a young people to become confident and empowered. - Initial and on-going training. - Individual support from the Project Coordinator. - Regular Support Group meetings with other mentors. - Reimbursement of travel costs and other out-of-pocket expenses associated with the meetings.
Usually mentors and mentees meet once a week or fortnight for an hour. When they meet is up to the mentor and mentee to decide together.
