Food Pantry Service Delivery Volunteer

We are looking for a capable volunteer to support the running of our Thursday food pantry sessions
We are looking for a person who is passionate about supporting people with food provision and can commit to Thursdays between 09:30-13.30. The role includes assisting pantry members with selecting items, taking payments and booking appointments. Helping to manage food supplies in a safe manner. Helping to ensure the food pantry and communal areas are kept safe, clean and tidy. Talking to and connect with Food Pantry members, so we can provide a warm welcome each week. Supporting members to access other services, activities and events, at the Bromley by Bow Centre and externally.

We are ideally looking for someone who lives locally and/or know the local area, has good communication and interpersonal skills so that pantry members feel welcome and supported, has work related experience of food and/or food projects or working in retail so the service can run safely, and someone comfortable with using technology to take payments and enter and edit data on a spreadsheet.
The person selected will gain experience in helping to reduce food insecurity and loneliness in a community setting, the opportunity to improve skills including customer service, teamwork and communication, receive ongoing support and training relevant to the role and also can claim travel expenses in line with the Bromley by Bow Centre's volunteering policy.
We are looking for someone who can commit to 4 hours a week on Thursdays.

The Bromley by Bow Centre is a five-minute walk from Bromley by Bow Tube Station and ten minutes from Devon’s Road DLR Station and Bow Church DLR Station. You can visit us using local bus services; both the D8 and 488 stop outside the Centre on St Leonard’s Street.
