Schools Volunteer

CAFOD

Inspire and inform children and young people on global poverty in Catholic schools across London.

Detailed Description

As a volunteer in Catholic schools you will help children and young people deepen their understanding of global justice. By running inspiring assemblies and engaging workshops, you will tap into their natural compassion and sense of fairness and they will be excited about making a difference with CAFOD, part of Caritas International. Catholic schools give a warm welcome to our volunteers and you will be changing how children feel about being part of our global family for many years to come. Training & shadowing opportunities will be provided to make sure you are well-prepared to visit schools.

What skills are required for this role

Basic IT skills - internet & email, Negotiating, Organising & Planning

Why these skills are required

An ability to communicate well with children and young people in large assembly settings and smaller class groups. An ability to use technology to deliver presentations (digital projector, laptop, PowerPoint) or be willing to learn. Be comfortable using email to communicate and accessing a website to find materials and information.

Time Commitment

On average, you will make about one visit a month (about four hours including preparation and travel), but our programme is busiest around the times of CAFOD Fast Days—late Sept/early Oct and during Lent. • You should be prepared to travel to local schools during school hours.
