Schools Volunteer
CAFOD
Inspire and inform children and young people on global poverty in Catholic schools across London.
As a volunteer in Catholic schools you will help children and young people deepen their understanding of global justice. By running inspiring assemblies and engaging workshops, you will tap into their natural compassion and sense of fairness and they will be excited about making a difference with CAFOD, part of Caritas International. Catholic schools give a warm welcome to our volunteers and you will be changing how children feel about being part of our global family for many years to come. Training & shadowing opportunities will be provided to make sure you are well-prepared to visit schools.
Teaching & Training,Youth Work
Basic IT skills - internet & email, Negotiating, Organising & Planning
An ability to communicate well with children and young people in large assembly settings and smaller class groups. An ability to use technology to deliver presentations (digital projector, laptop, PowerPoint) or be willing to learn. Be comfortable using email to communicate and accessing a website to find materials and information.
The work is satisfying and enjoyable. You will see children and young people learning about the wider world and their place in it. You will receive a warm welcome from staff and students alike who appreciate CAFOD visits. You will develop your communication and presentation skills. You will gain experience of working in a school setting. You will get to know other local School Volunteers who share similar values. Through CAFOD you will be part of a global movement building a fairer world for all.
On average, you will make about one visit a month (about four hours including preparation and travel), but our programme is busiest around the times of CAFOD Fast Days—late Sept/early Oct and during Lent. • You should be prepared to travel to local schools during school hours.
