Deaf Plus
deafPLUS provides free advice and the opportunity to try out items of equipment in our demonstration centre. You will be the person to demonstrate a variety of aids to daily living for service users and to help them select the right equipment.
At deafPLUS at Bromley we have volunteer roles for deaf, hard-of-hearing or hearing people as well as sign language users and non-users. We are looking for volunteer(s) with excellent communication skills to: - demonstrate the various aids and apparatus for our deaf and hard-of-hearing clients, - to ensure that clients know how to use the equipment. Loss of hearing can be devastating. As Equipment Officer you can make a world of difference to a person living with hearing loss. deafPLUS provides free advice and the opportunity to try out items of equipment at our demonstration centre. You will be the person to demonstrate a variety of aids for daily living to service users and help them to select the right equipment. You would make a referral to the council if the client wants to get an item of equipment for themselves. In this role you can change lives!
Advice, Information & Support
IT skills - basic
Key Skills: - A confident, friendly and open approach to all clients - Excellent communication skills - British Sign Language if possible - Understanding of issues surrounding hearing loss - Deaf and Disability Awareness - Able to work on your own and as part of a team - Able to show people how to use equipment - Possess the skills to communicate (sometimes technical subjects) to non-experts in a helpful, tactful, calm and sensitive manner - Show an ability to advise on the technology needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing people, and to deliver a professional service.
