Extra pair of hands needed at Scouts to help young people have fun and grow, indoors & out

Detailed Description

Ever needed an extra pair of hands? Well, so do we! Want the chance to go hiking, climbing, or camping? Then why not come and have a go and lend us your hands. We need support in running our sessions whether that’s learning about trees the local park, crafts, or a games night, and whether you have time once a term or once a week. All you need is enthusiasm, empathy and a good sense of humour. Everything else we can teach you. 16th Bermondsey & Southwark Scouts, on Galleywall Road, SE16 3PB. Sound like you? What skills are required for this role

Art & Craft, Organising & Planning

Why these skills are required

All you need to bring along is enthusiasm, a sense of humour, and a willingness to engage with young people. Our door is open to people of all ages, genders, races and backgrounds, and we’re only able to change lives because people like you lend a hand. Whatever your skillset, lend a hand for as little or as much time as you can spare, and we promise you’ll get more out than you put in. Whether you’re helping a leader to run a craft session, organising a scavenger hunt in the park, or helping a group of enthusiastic eleven year olds cook sausages over a fire - no two Scout meetings are the same. The difference you make, though, is always great. We provide the training. You show up, get stuck in, and make memories for life.

What is in it for you

Scout volunteers report having improved life satisfaction and self-esteem. Being involved with Scouting means being part of a team who support one another, and connecting with the local community. Volunteering at Scouts also helps build your CV and your employability: Scout volunteers also report feeling more confident and motivated in their jobs. There's also the satisfaction of seeing young people grow and develop; and joining in activities is a lot of fun!

Time Commitment

Our weekly meetings are 1-2 hours a week (depending on which age group you choose to support). We are open to volunteers who can come once a month or once a fortnight, as well as those who are looking for a weekly commitment, and we can work with whatever your schedule is.
