Community Scrutiny Group volunteer
Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime
Help make policing fairer by becoming a Community Scrutiny Group volunteer. You’ll review police data and Body Worn Video footage, share community perspectives, ask questions and help make recommendations for improvement. No previous experience is needed. Training and support are provided. You’ll need a connection to the borough you wish to represent and be able to commit for at least 12 months.
Do you want to help make policing fairer and ensure local communities have a voice? Community Scrutiny Group (CSG) volunteers help hold the police to account by reviewing how police powers are used and sharing feedback from a community perspective. This is an opportunity to make a real difference to policing, improve trust and help ensure people are treated fairly and respectfully. As a volunteer, you will: • Take part in monthly scrutiny activities, reviewing police data, Body Worn Video footage and other relevant information. • Attend quarterly group meetings to discuss findings, share views and agree recommendations. • Ask questions and provide constructive challenge to help identify where policing could improve. • Work with other volunteers and local police representatives to discuss findings and support positive change. • Help ensure local voices, experiences and concerns are heard. You don’t need previous experience of policing or scrutiny. We welcome people from all backgrounds who care about their communities and want to improve fairness, transparency and accountability in policing. Your lived experience, local knowledge, professional skills or community involvement can all make a valuable contribution. You’ll receive training and ongoing support to help you carry out the role. Meetings may be in person, online or a mix of both, and reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. Volunteers are asked to commit to monthly activities and quarterly meetings for at least 12 months. If you’re aged 18 or over, have a connection to the borough you wish to represent, and want to help build trust between communities and the police, we’d love to hear from you.
