You’ll help create wooden displays, models, props and hands-on installations that bring the hidden world of digital technology to life!
About ThreadPoint ThreadPoint is a Hackney-based education organisation helping children and communities understand AI, digital infrastructure and the technology shaping our everyday lives. Through storytelling, creative workshops, hands-on activities and our digital Learning Lab, we make complex technology accessible, engaging and fun. About the Opportunity We’re looking for a practical, creative and enthusiastic volunteer with carpentry, woodworking or fabrication skills to help bring our interactive educational exhibitions to life! We’re developing hands-on learning experiences that allow children and families to explore the hidden physical infrastructure behind the internet, cloud computing and AI. We’d love to work with someone who enjoys making things, solving practical challenges and transforming creative ideas into physical objects. What You’ll Be Doing * Helping design and build exhibition displays, structures and interactive installations. * Creating wooden props, models, display stands and other educational materials. * Supporting the construction of safe, durable and reusable exhibition components. * Working alongside creative volunteers to turn concepts into practical designs. * Advising on suitable materials, construction methods and feasibility. * Helping measure, assemble, adapt and finish exhibition components. * Supporting the setup and dismantling of exhibition displays where available. * Suggesting creative, affordable and sustainable approaches to fabrication. Projects will vary depending on the exhibition’s development and your interests. You’ll have opportunities to contribute ideas and help shape the physical elements of our learning experiences. All fabrication activities will be planned around appropriate tools, facilities, supervision and safety arrangements. Volunteers won’t be expected to provide specialist equipment or undertake work beyond their competence.
