East London Scouts
Every week East London Scouts give almost half a million people aged 6-25 the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life. We are looking for volunteers to join our 14th Hackney Scout Group.
Every week East London Scouts give almost half a million people aged 6-25 the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life. We are looking for volunteers to join our 14th Hackney Scout Group. Join with a diverse, welcoming team to help run meetings with any of our age group sections for boys and girls. You will be a team member joining in the running of evening meetings. You can choose the age group of the children and young people you wish to support. Once you have enjoyed the experience of being with us, we will support you with some basic on-line training. Our sections are: - Beavers: aged 6 -8 - Cubs: 8 - 11 - Scouts: 11 - 14 - Explorers: 14 - 18. Meetings are held weekly in school term time and consist of games and skills-based activities to support young people in their development into responsible citizens. The leaders and helpers who make the meetings happen every week so that young people gain skills for life, and take part in the range of activities they wouldn't find anywhere else. Can’t make it every week? Not a problem! We can adapt your volunteering to personal schedules and guarantee you’ll find the experience rewarding.
Youth Work
Organising & Planning
All that’s required is a willingness to get involved which will be much appreciated.
Some of our volunteers join to get experience of working with children and young people and develop their skills in this area. Some join because we promote practical and outdoor activities that promote well-being. Others were once scouts themselves and share the vision of our worldwide organisation, although it’s not necessary to have any previous experience of either scouts or guides. All enjoy the company of other volunteers and the reward of helping young people progress.
Attending a weekly, evening meeting in term time would be ideal but we are flexible around personal schedules and shift work patterns. Evening meetings last one and a half hours. Weekend activities like camping are optional.
