Listening Ear Volunteer

City and Hackney Carers Centre works to support the unmet practical, emotional and social needs of carers. We are looking for volunteers to provide empathetic, non-judgemental listening support to unpaid carers through one-to-one Listening Ear sessions. Volunteers offer a safe and supportive space where carers can talk about the challenges of caring, feelings of stress, anxiety or isolation, and other issues affecting their wellbeing. This is not a counselling service.

Volunteers offer a safe and supportive space where carers can talk about the challenges of caring, feelings of stress, anxiety or isolation, and other issues affecting their wellbeing. This is not a counselling service. Key Responsibilities • Provide confidential, one-to-one listening support sessions by telephone, online, or in person as appropriate. • Create a welcoming, supportive and non-judgemental environment where carers feel heard and valued. • Encourage carers to explore their concerns and identify their own priorities and solutions. • Maintain appropriate boundaries and recognise the limits of the volunteer role. • Keep accurate records in line with organisational policies. • Signpost carers to additional services and support where appropriate. • Participate in training, supervision and team meetings where possible. Training and Support: Full training, ongoing supervision and support will be provided. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by helping carers feel supported, less isolated and better able to cope with the demands of their caring responsibilities.

Skills and Qualities • Good listening and communication skills. • Empathy, patience and understanding. • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. • Reliable, trustworthy and committed to supporting carers. • Awareness of the challenges faced by unpaid carers. • Ability to remain calm when discussing sensitive issues.

2-3 hrs each week. Ideally volunteers will commit to one year in the role.
