Volunteers will support an engaging employability workshop for students with additional needs, helping them explore future career options and develop workplace skills. By sharing your own education and career journey, you’ll help bring the world of work to life, raise aspirations, build confidence, and support students as they prepare for future work experience and employment.
Inspire's vision is for all young people to have access to the opportunities they need to achieve their potential, realise their ambitions and build fulfilling careers and lives. The Launch Academy is a three-year programme supporting students with additional needs and those at risk of becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training). The programme begins in year 9 and continues through to the end of year 11, helping students develop the skills, confidence and aspirations needed to successfully transition into further education, training or employment. It is now in its second year (students are in year 10). On 7th December 2026 (11:00am – 3.30pm), we’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support an interactive employability and career readiness workshop at Excelsior Academy (E8 2EY). This workshop forms part of the students’ ongoing development journey and provides an opportunity for them to learn directly from professionals from a range of industries and backgrounds. Volunteers play a vital tole in helping students connect their education to future opportunities and gain a better understanding of the world of work. As a volunteer, you will share your personal education and career journey, discuss routes into your industry, and provide insights into the skills and qualities employers look for. You will also support engaging, interactive activities designed and facilitated by Inspire, helping students explore employability skills such as communication, teamwork, resilience, problem-solving and professionalism. By volunteering, you’ll help young people broaden their awareness of career opportunities, prepare for future work experience and employment, and develop the self-belief needed to pursue their goals. At the same time, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your own mentoring, communication and facilitation skills while making a meaningful difference in your local community. No prior experience working with young people is requires and a full online briefing will be held prior to go over session content, logistics and safeguarding information. All materials will be prepared by Inspire, and our team will be on hand throughout the session to provide support.

Enter the school via the visitor reception. The Excelsior academy is easily accessible via Dalston Kingsland, Dalston Junction, Hackney Downs and Rectory Road stations. It is also served by many bus routes.
