Office, Operations and coordination volunteers

Children with Voices

Children with Voices started over 20 years ago with one woman, a community hall and a belief that no child in Hackney should be forgotten. We are looking for volunteers to support with our office, operations and coordination.

Detailed Description

Children with Voices started over 20 years ago with one woman, a community hall and a belief that no child in Hackney should be forgotten. Our founder Michelle began with a Winter Wonderland for local children at London Fields School, covered by the Hackney Gazette, after being named Family Mosaic Inspirational Tenant of the Year. Today we are a registered charity at Fawcett Estate Community Hall in Clapton, running a Community Food Hub, Jumping Beans, SEND support, alternative education and work in local schools. Over 100,000 children and families have come through our doors. We are looking for volunteers to support with our office, operations and coordination. We are looking for organised, determined and adaptable individuals to help with the running of our office and volunteering offer. As our volunteer coordinator and systems volunteer, your duties and responsibilities would include: • Keeping our volunteer rotas organised across the Food Hub, Jumping Beans, SEND and events, so every session is covered • Welcoming new volunteers, getting them settled and making sure they know who to turn to • Keeping our volunteer records accurate and up to date, including training and availability • Checking in with volunteers, listening to how they are finding it and passing on what you hear • Helping us thank people properly, because nobody should give their time and feel unnoticed For our office and operations role, your duties and responsibilities would include: • Keeping the office running day to day, working alongside Uzo so the two of you cover the week between you • Helping stay on top of our inbox, so enquiries from families, funders and partners get picked up quickly and passed to the right person • Bringing order to our filing, records and shared drives, so anyone can find what they need without asking • Managing supplies, equipment and the practical side of the building, and flagging anything that needs fixing • Being a warm first point of contact for people who call in or drop by • Setting up simple systems that outlast you, so the office keeps running smoothly Whether you are a retired office manager, PA or administrator with time to give and skills to spare these roles would be ideal for you. Within the roles you would need: - Warmth and good judgement matter more than experience here. - You need to be organised, reliable and calm when things get busy. - You need to be comfortable with email, documents and spreadsheets. - Discretion matters, as you will handle personal information about our volunteers. We would require volunteers to give between 4-10 hours per week depending on the role they are carrying out and would love a commitment of 6 months or more, so you can see your impact. There is no obligation for this however.

Why these skills are required

You do not need charity experience. You need to be organised, reliable and calm when things get busy. You need to be comfortable with email, documents and spreadsheets, and happy working with people from all walks of life. Discretion matters too, because you will see sensitive information about families we support.

What is in it for you

Real responsibility from day one and the freedom to shape how things run. Proper support, so you are never left to figure it out alone. A personal reference from Michelle. And the satisfaction of seeing a busy charity work better because you are in it.

Time Commitment

We would require volunteers to give between 4-10 hours per week depending on the role they are carrying out and would love a commitment of 6 months or more, so you can see your impact. There is no obligation for this however.
