Reception and Front of House Volunteer
Children with Voices
Children with Voices started over 20 years ago with one woman, a community hall and a belief that no child in Hackney should be forgotten. We are looking for a reception/front of house volunteer to be the friendly face of Children with Voices.
Children with Voices started over 20 years ago with one woman, a community hall and a belief that no child in Hackney should be forgotten. Our founder Michelle began with a Winter Wonderland for local children at London Fields School, covered by the Hackney Gazette, after being named Family Mosaic Inspirational Tenant of the Year. Today we are a registered charity at Fawcett Estate Community Hall in Clapton, running a Community Food Hub, Jumping Beans, SEND support, alternative education and work in local schools. Over 100,000 children and families have come through our doors. We are looking for a reception/front of house volunteer to be the friendly face of Children with Voices. People arrive at our door with all sorts of questions. Some need food, some want to volunteer, some just want to know who we are. Whoever greets them sets the tone for everything that follows. We are looking for someone warm and unflappable to be that person, even if you can only give us one morning a week. Who this role suits: Anyone who is good with people. A retired receptionist or administrator, a parent with a free morning, a student, or someone who simply wants to be useful close to home. This role works well as a half day a week, so it fits around a lot of lives. Duties and responsibilities: • Welcoming everyone who comes through our door and making sure they are looked after • Answering the telephone, taking clear messages and passing enquiries to the right person • Helping with data entry so our records stay accurate and up to date • General front of house tasks, keeping the reception area tidy and welcoming • Letting our team know straight away if someone arrives in distress or needs urgent help We would be looking for the prospective volunteer to give at least one half day a week and would love a commitment of 6 months or more so you can see your impact. There is no obligation for this though. What you will need: Warmth, patience and reliability. Basic comfort with a computer for data entry and email. The good sense to know when something needs passing to a member of staff rather than handled alone. No previous experience needed, and we will train you. What you will get from us: A friendly place to spend your morning and the satisfaction of knowing you helped someone feel welcome. Training and proper support. A personal reference from Michelle, and real office experience if you want it.
