Detailed Description

Sport in Mind is the UK's leading mental health sports charity. We use the power of sport to transform the lives of children and adults. Sport in Mind are looking to start a Run Talk Run/Walk Talk Walk programme in the City of London. The programme would include a weekly mental health run/walk, to give people the chance to exercise and have healthy conversations with other participants. We are looking for Run Talk Run/Walk Talk Walk volunteers to help lead these weekly runs/walks in the City of London. Run Talk Run/Walk Talk Walk volunteers will be given the tools and training to: • Plan a 5km run or 3km walk route for a weekly session (leaders would need to attend for around 1 hour each week – all leaders need to be there 15mins before the start of the session). • Carry out a risk assessment for that route (one time set up – we provide a standard risk assessment and ask that leaders check it is applicable for their specific route). • Welcome runners each week and frame how this run is different to other runs. • How to signpost to other services if anyone should need additional support. • How to keep different fitness levels together within the small group run (groups should be 2-20 people). • How to create a safe space for this one hour a week where people feel safe and looked after. • How to deal with and report any safeguarding issues. • Leaders receive a Run Talk Run/Walk Talk Walk powered by Sport in Mind T-Shirt. Onboarding process (4-5 hours): • 1-1 introduction call with Ben Grey or one of the other regional leaders (30-60 mins) • Online application form – we ask for 2 references (20 mins) • DBS Check – online form (20 mins) • Policies and Procedures review and declaration (60 mins) • Online Training Certification (60 mins) • Route Planning (30 mins) • Risk Assessment (15 mins) • Setting up session in the Heylo app (15 mins) We would be looking for volunteers to commit to a weekly commitment of approximately 75 mins. This would be broken down into: • 60 mins to host the session each week • 15 mins to do some form of local promotion of the group – we support this with training and some digital assets.
