East London Waterworks Park

East London Waterworks Park is a community-led charity working to reconnect people and nature. As we enter the next phase of our growth development plans, we are seeking additional trustees to help strengthen our governance model, build strategic partnerships, and support the organisation's development aspirations.

About us East London Waterworks Park is a community-led charity working to reconnect people and nature. Starting from nature-first principles, and with inclusivity at the heart of everything we do, we work with communities to co-design spaces that unlock positive change for people, place, and the natural environment. We operate using sociocratic principles, with collaboration, transparency, and meaningful participation at the heart of our governance. Our strategic direction As we enter the next phase of our growth development plans, we are seeking additional trustees to help strengthen our governance model, build strategic partnerships, and support the organisation as it prepares for the delivery of environmental and community projects that align with the same vision, mission and values. Our mission is rooted in three strategic priorities going into 2027: Protecting and restoring nature through green and blue infrastructure Creating opportunities for young people to connect with nature, develop skills and build confidence Tackling unequal access to water and outdoor spaces In partnership with the CEO, as a trustee you will help guide the strategic direction of the charity, support good governance, oversee risk and financial stewardship, and contribute your expertise, networks, and experience to help us achieve our mission. We are particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in: Community organising and advocacy. Planning, land, or environmental law Ecology and biodiversity Public affairs, policy, or campaigning Communications and stakeholder engagement Fundraising and trust/foundation relationships Charity or commercial finance Learning and education programmes Volunteer management Social research and community participation We are especially keen to hear from people who have strong connections to Hackney, Waltham Forest, the Lower Lea Valley, or who bring lived experience of racial, social, economic, or other structural inequalities. What we are looking for You do not need previous trustee experience. We welcome applicants who can demonstrate: Commitment to our mission and values Good judgement and collaborative decision-making Willingness to contribute strategically rather than operationally Interest in inclusive governance and shared decision-making Passion for nature recovery, climate resilience and community empowerment Time commitment Approximately 10 hours per month At least four board meetings per year Initial term of three years Voluntary position with reasonable expenses reimbursed Apply Please register your interest and we will request from you: - Your CV - A short statement outlining your interest in the role, relevant experience, and what you would bring to the organisation We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive trustee board.
