Gardening Group Volunteer (Sandringham Medical Centre) - Together Better

Sandringham Medical Centre are looking for a gardening volunteer to work with patients to regenerate a very small outside space to turn it into a small community garden for patients and staff to enjoy to boost wellbeing, reduce social isolation and encouraging patients to get to know each other. This role is as much about the gardening as it is about the opportunity to socialise and reduce isolation.

Detailed Description

Together Better is a Volunteer Centre Hackney project that aims to lighten the load on GP surgeries and encourage patients into activities that will benefit their health and wellbeing, by supporting them to build inclusive and sustainable relationships and overall healthier lives. Sandringham Medical Centre are looking for a gardening volunteer to lead a gardening group to revamp their small outdoor space for the benefit of patients and the Together Better groups. Their role will be to manage the group dynamic, provide a fun, safe and supportive environment to encourage patients to garden and revamp this unloved space, just off on the side of the waiting room. Responsibilities include: • Planning the long and short term process of transforming the garden • Setting up and putting away the equipment • Ensure the space is kept safe and tidy • Managing the patients, providing a space for connection and communication.

Why these skills are required

We encourage applicants to be kind, friendly and has a basic knowledge of gardening so they are able to plan and support patients who have never gardened before.

What is in it for you

The volunteer will gain the experience of planning and executing a gardening project from start to finish. The volunteer will gain knowledge and understanding of what it takes to facilitate a community activity within the NHS. We can provide further training on mental health, suicide awarenesss and trauma informed practice.

Time Commitment

Anywhere in between 1.5 and 2.5 hours of times.
