At the Fixing Factory, we give things a new lease of life. From tablets to toasters, we help the public fix their broken electrical items and learn new skills. We're looking for volunteer hosts to support us carry out our service.
Do you care about e-waste and sustainability? Love to see items get a new lease of life? Organised or just love working with and meeting new people? As the Host, you’ll be the first person visitors meet when they arrive at our free community repair drop-ins. You’ll coordinate booking slots on the day, and provide a warm and welcoming environment so people have a great repair experience. We will support you to learn new skills and grow in this role by providing training. Main Responsibilities -Greet members of the public when they arrive at community repair. -Confirm if people have pre-booked, and, if not, book them in for repair slots using our whiteboard booking system. Prepare teas and coffees for people waiting for their repair slot. Chat with visitors and provide a friendly welcome. -Answer questions from passers-by about our activities and how they can get involved (all information will be provided to you). -Manage expectations of visitors coming to get something repaired, for example letting them know that a full repair may not be possible or they may need to purchase a spare part -Once repairs are complete, record it in the booking system and let people know they can give a donation if they’d like to support our work -Take donations using our petty cash box or card reader (training will be provided). -Follow all Fixing Factory procedures, including our volunteer code of conduct and health, safety and safeguarding procedures. -Attend any necessary training for your role provided by Fixing Factories. -Play an active role in keeping the Fixing Factory a supportive, inspiring and anti-oppressive place to be. -Be a team player - e.g. tea-making, skill-sharing and washing-up.

Good in-person communication skills - you’re a people person who loves engaging with the general public, having a chat, and creating a warm and friendly environment. Able to stay focused and organised in a busy environment - you are comfortable juggling different tasks and demands on your attention. Enthusiastic about community repair projects - you’re excited to tell the general public about our great work at Fixing Factories, and invite them to support it if they are able to.
