Trustee

Clapton Commons Community Organisation

Are you passionate about local community life? Do you want to use your skills or lived experience to support a small charity making a big difference in Hackney? We’re looking for new Trustees to join the Board of Trustees at Clapton Commons. People who care about our neighbourhood and want to help shape a fairer, more connected community. You don’t need previous Board experience. We’ll support you with a full induction, training and a chance to grow into the role.

Detailed Description

Clapton Commons is a small, grassroots charity based in north Hackney. We run warm, welcoming community spaces like Liberty Hall and the Common Room, and we support people to organise and act on what matters most in their local area, from tenant rights to food justice and community celebrations. Our work is guided by three values: • Reciprocity - give and take • Solidarity - we’re in it together • Localism - we can do it ourselves We believe people know what’s best for their own community and we’re here to help that happen. We’re looking for new Trustees to join the Board of Trustees at Clapton Commons. People who care about our neighbourhood and want to help shape a fairer, more connected community. You don’t need previous Board experience. We’ll support you with a full induction, training and a chance to grow into the role. What you’ll do: As a Trustee, you’ll help guide the charity and support its future. This includes: • Helping shape our vision and priorities • Supporting decision making at Board meetings • Offering ideas and constructive challenge to our team • Helping us stay financially healthy and legally compliant • Championing our work and values in the local community • Connecting us with potential supporters, funders or partners We don’t expect you to be an expert in these areas (or have any experience as a trustee in fact). You’ll be joining a team that shares responsibility and supports each other. We will support, train and help you grow into and excel as a trustee. Who we’re looking for: We welcome people from all backgrounds, especially if you: • Live or work in Clapton and/or other parts of Hackney • Have experience of the challenges our community faces • Have ideas about how to build fairer, more connected neighbourhoods. We’re particularly interested in people with experience or insight in areas like: • Community organising or local activism • Finance, governance or charity management • Fundraising, communications or partnerships • HR or legal • Housing, health, community relations or food insecurity • Diversity, equity and inclusion We are especially keen to hear from people who reflect the diversity of Clapton and Hackney and from people who haven’t been trustees before.
