This role offers the opportunity to contribute at Board level, support good governance, and help a community-led charity grow in a thoughtful and sustainable way.
The Boiler House Community Space Charity are dedicated to unlocking the immense potential of strengthening community networks and the support and capital they generate, both in positive and challenging times. We are seeking a committed and thoughtful individual to join our Board of Trustees as an additional Trustee to help strengthen our governance as BHS expands its community programmes. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the next phase of the organisation’s development and contribute to its long-term direction. The role is ideal for someone with experience in community development, governance, strategy or organisational growth who wants to use their skills to support a community-led charity. The Trustee will contribute to Board discussions, support effective decision-making, and help ensure the organisation remains well governed, responsive and sustainable as it grows. Key Responsibilities • Contribute to the strategic direction and development of BHS • Support strong governance, accountability and effective Board decision-making • Bring insight on community development, organisational growth or strategic planning • Help the Board consider opportunities, risks and priorities as programmes expand • Contribute constructively to discussions on the organisation’s future direction • Support the charity to remain community-led, inclusive and responsive to local needs • Attend and actively contribute to 6–8 trustee meetings per year, including the AGM

Yes — applicants should bring relevant experience or a sound understanding of community development, governance, strategic planning or organisational growth. They should be able to contribute at a strategic level, work collaboratively with the Board, and support thoughtful decision-making as the organisation develops. Previous trustee or board experience is welcome, but not essential.
This role offers the opportunity to help shape the future of a growing community-led charity while developing Board-level experience. Volunteers will gain skills including: • Understanding how a charity Board operates • Strategic thinking and governance decision-making • Experience supporting organisational growth and development • Confidence contributing to high-level discussions • Collaborative working and influencing skills • Insight into community-led leadership and change
The role requires an average commitment of around 1–2 days per month, including attendance at 6–8 trustee meetings per year, preparation for Board discussions, review of relevant papers, and contribution to strategic conversations about governance, organisational development and community programmes. Additional time may occasionally be needed at key points in the year, such as planning discussions, policy review, or supporting decisions linked to growth and development.
