Volunteer Cooks (Lead Role)
Choir with No Name
Volunteer with The Choir with No Name and be part of a welcoming, supportive community. Our choir is for people with experience of homelessness and/or marginalisation. Our volunteers are the back bone of the choir and help run lively weekly rehearsals, cook simple meals, support members, or get involved in gigs at exciting venues. No experience or singing ability needed, just a willingness to get stuck in, meet new people and be part of something positive each week.
None of our choirs would exist without our dedicated volunteers. Volunteering with The Choir with No Name is a chance to be part of a supportive, friendly local community. You’ll meet new people, build friendships and be part of something positive each week. From helping run rehearsals to cooking meals or supporting at gigs, every role helps create a welcoming space. We are looking for volunteer cooks (lead role) to support at our sessions. This is a relaxed, social role for anyone who enjoys cooking. You’ll prepare a simple, hearty meal for around 50 people after rehearsal. Think soups, curries, pasta or jacket potatoes. Nothing fancy, just good food. You’ll work with a small team of helpers in an on-site kitchen. What’s involved: • Planning a simple menu • Ordering ingredients (delivered to the venue) • Leading a small team to cook and serve (6:00–8:30pm) • Following food safety guidance (training provided) No professional experience needed. Good to know: • Full support with planning • Food costs covered • Food Safety & Hygiene Level 2 training provided (online)

No formal skills are required. We’re looking for people who are friendly, reliable and open to working with a diverse group of people. A positive attitude, willingness to get involved and respect for others are essential. For cooking roles, basic confidence in preparing simple meals is helpful.
Volunteers gain experience working in a supportive, community-led environment and develop skills in teamwork, communication, music and supporting others. There are opportunities to build confidence, take on responsibility and gain practical experience in areas such as event delivery, food preparation and community engagement. We provide training in safeguarding, first aid and food hygiene (where relevant), as well as ongoing, bespoke training throughout the year on areas such as trauma-informed practice and working in inclusive environments. It’s a social and welcoming space, with plenty of opportunities to meet new people, build friendships and be part of a positive, creative community.
Rehearsals take place every Monday from 6:00pm to 9:30pm. We ask volunteers to commit to at least two rehearsals per month where possible.
