Community Garden Volunteer (City of London)

The Guild Church of St Katharine Cree

We are looking for volunteers in to help us develop a vibrant, green, biodiverse therapeutic garden in the heart of the City of London.

Detailed Description

We are looking for volunteers in to help us develop a vibrant, green, biodiverse therapeutic garden in the heart of the City of London. Our courtyard garden is the oldest, continually used green space in the City of London. With planted beds, trees, a 17th century working fountain, and a view of the Gherkin, this is a unique space. SKC runs a workers’ centre for all who work in the local area, particularly those in ‘hidden’ industries like cleaning or security, and community gardening is one of the wellbeing services we offer. We have been running monthly community gardening sessions since November 2025 and are keen to develop our activities further by improving biodiversity in the garden, creating a therapeutic garden, and potentially holding more gardening sessions. We are looking for volunteers to attend and help out at the monthly gardening sessions (Tuesday lunchtimes 12:30-2:15) and potentially sessions on a Saturday. This involves set up (laying out tools and refreshments, potentially helping to plan activities), welcoming attendees, and gardening (weeding, planting, sweeping, building new areas e.g. a container pond or bug hotel). We welcome volunteers with and without gardening experience. While not an essential requirement, we particularly welcome volunteers who speak Spanish as many of our community members are Spanish-speaking. Safeguarding the people in our community is a top priority for SKC and something which all volunteers play a role in. You can expect training and support in fulfilling this area of your role.
