We are looking for Textile Goods Repairers who can use their experience and volunteer their time at our Repair Café to mend textile items. A Repair Café is a community project where members of the public can bring in a broken item to be repaired, for free, by a skilled and experienced volunteer. Poplar HARCA is running a Repair Café to help support our residents within the local community. By attending a Repair Café they can reduce costs/spending on buying new products or paying for a repair job. Repair Cafes also have a positive impact as they might save an item which has an easy fix from ending up in landfill. This reduces textile/electronic wastage, two industries known for their devastating effects on our environment. We are looking for Textile Goods Repairers who can use their experience and volunteer their time at our Repair Café to mend textile items. This could include clothing, furnishings and household goods. We will have a sewing machine for you to use on the day and a variety of buttons, threads and zips. If attendees need specific items for their damaged item, we will communicate to them that they are expected to bring these items with them. If you have specific tools or equipment you like to work with, you may bring them with you. You role will be to examine damaged textile goods (cushion covers, missing buttons, holes in clothes, etc.) to see if they can be repaired. If you think the item can be repaired, you'll use your skills and experience to mend it. If you can’t repair the item, or the item is beyond repair, you'll signpost the attendee. We hope the Repair Café will run at Feldy once a month. Dates will be sent out ahead of time. Volunteers will be needed on Tuesdays from 12.30pm to 4pm once a month.
