St Margaret's House is a community Arts and Wellbeing Centre in Bethnal Green. We believe in the transformative power of the arts and community connection to impact people’s physical and mental health and wellbeing. Volunteers are an integral part of the St Margaret’s House team. They help us engage and inspire both individuals and community groups, whilst gaining key skills and experience in a busy and multifaceted arts charity. Many of our volunteers have gone on to become paid members of staff at St Margaret’s House, or have been able to find work in other organisations after volunteering with us. We are looking for people to help with our monthly gardening sessions, from weeding to planting. The St Margaret’s House garden has been redeveloped over the past two years. Last year saw the installation of the RHS gold medal winning 'Talitha Arts Garden', and this year has seen landscaping work to make the garden fully accessible. Weeding and watering are two really important tasks that the garden needs, and we'd love to involve our community in the maintenance of the garden. So many of us don’t have access to a garden at home, so we want to make our garden available to everyone who is looking for that opportunity. Gardening can be a really therapeutic activity that is good for wellbeing, so join us! We hold monthly gardening meetups, the timings of which will change with the seasons - but we will also welcome anyone popping by for a short period of time, even 5 mins of weeding makes a huge difference in the overall upkeep of the garden! If you are interested in volunteering your time to be part of the SMH Gardening Club, please get in touch by registering interest and we will provide you with more information about when the next session is taking place. Our team appreciate applications submitted to us, however due to the high volume of applications, we are not always able to respond to each individual applicant. If you are volunteering for an activity which is run sporadically, such as our Gardening Club, it may take a few weeks for a member of our team to get in touch with you.
