Collections Driver
Bow Foodbank
We are seeking volunteers who are capable of driving a van (Category B vehicle) to complete collections for us. The collections are donations from supermarkets across Tower Hamlets. The collections take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, between 11am and 3pm. The round-trip takes 1-2 hours, but we give time for flexibility. The collections are important for our organisation to operate and therefore the role is very important to us!
Bow Foodbank is a Tower Hamlets charity providing emergency food and wider support to people experiencing financial hardship. We run five weekly food distribution sessions, supporting around 400–500 guest visits each week, and operate an open-access model with no referral or voucher required. Our work is community-led and supported by more than 300 volunteers each year. Volunteers help deliver sessions, register guests, identify additional needs, and are trained in safeguarding and Advice First Aid. Bow Foodbank is also a founding member of the Tower Hamlets Food Poverty Network and employs the Network’s coordinator, helping food providers across the borough coordinate services, share learning and strengthen responses to food poverty. We are seeking volunteers who are capable of driving a van (Category B vehicle) to complete collections for us. The collections are donations from supermarkets across Tower Hamlets. The collections take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, between 11am and 3pm. The round-trip takes 1-2 hours, but we give time for flexibility. The collections are important for our organisation to operate and therefore the role is very important to us! You will have a buddy in the van with you to accompany you on the journey and to help transfer collections into and out of the van. The role is led by our volunteer coordinator and operations manager, who oversee and liaise with the volunteer drivers. Schedules are worked out ahead of the week, so that the driver knows when and where they are expected to be.

UK Driving Licence
- Ability to drive category B.1 vehicle. - Calm under pressure. - Punctual and flexible. - Independent and dependable.
Experience driving for an organisation. CV-building skills such as interpersonal skills, communication, logistics and time management. Managing schedule with other volunteers and acting as the face of Bow Foodbank at collections. Developing skills in large vehicle driving. Wellbeing and sense of purpose by supporting charity which helps people living in material poverty. Meeting a range of diverse people in the volunteer teams. Giving back to your local area by supporting the foodbank.
1 day a week, Tuesday or Wednesday, for 1-2 hours in the afternoon.
